In 2003 "JAXPORT" - the Jacksonville Port Authority - opened a temporary Jacksonville Cruise Terminal in the Dames Point area of northeast Jacksonville. The tallest of cruise ships can't pass under a bridge and some power lines to get to the current terminal, so there are plans to build something closer to the Atlantic coast. In the meantime, Carnival Cruise Lines and American Cruise Line still offer plenty of cruising options on slightly smaller (but still big by historical standards) vessels.
